If someone was going to capture the complete picture of Al Qaeda it may take several large volumes. This book provides a really good look at what makes groups like AQ and ISIS tick. It is an excellent resource whether you are a scholar or someone who knows very little about such a complex problem the world faces today. I think one of the best aspects of this book is the full circle approach each chapter gives you, beginning with brief, yet insightful background information which sets the table for a discussion, then brings it back around to demonstrate that each issue has a history and an evolution. I found it especially interesting to read the book with all of the current events taking place, it gives the reader an anchor when trying to understand the various mechanisms of Radial Islam and the Jihadist movement, whether it is recruitment, operations, financing, or regional influence. If you get a chance too, check out the website that is accompanied, it is really interesting.
