I really loved reading this book! I would recommend this book to anyone who feels “stuck” between who she or he is and who she or he wants to be. This issue is more common than I imagined. While this book talks a lot about the importance of talent management within an organization, it also talks about managing personal talent, which the book points out is essential for success is one’s future career. This is by far one of the best organizational behavior books I have read. Dr. Odom really engages the audience by telling a story. He captivates the reader by providing examples of personal experiences that make one feel as if they are re-living the event. As a senior in college, I feel like this book prepared me for what to expect when I show up at work after graduation. I have always had the mindset that I need to find a job that fits with my lifestyle and my personality. No matter how well known a company is, or how prestigious the position, I know that if I cannot see my authentic self in that position, the job is not worth pursuing. The book really made be think about my long term professional goals and just supported my opinion that I need to find a place that fits for me, not a place where I have to make myself fit. Furthermore, one thing that Dr. Odom explains is that having a sense of self-worth will always work to your advantage. Again, I really recommend this book to college students, employees, and managers because it gives one great insight into the professional world and how to get to avoid getting “stuck in the middle.”
